However the women are not to be taken for granted, and Norton is powerful in her role as both an abused wife, and a force of female independence and self-defense. I wonder if this was a conscious attempt to avoid any kind of boundary issues, or if the location was simply so beautiful that this was all that was needed. Whatever the reason, the use of location doesn't detract one jot from the film. It is beautifully photographed. I think it's a shame that many films with great locations are so fake and slick. This one really is an honest attempt to capture the character. I think ten minutes into the film if you knew nothing about the story, and you were only watching Chidananda, you would have no idea that he was just a character who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
